Next, this doesn't answer my original question of how to remove/replace the screw, but it does answer the actual question: how to change the light bulb when a stripped screw can't be removed. The instructions for changing a bulb are: remove the screw (from outside). remove a (vinyl) wing nut (accessible inside the car). Skip step 1.
Remove three screws over the lens, pull surround towards you. There are three clips along the bottom. Unplug the hatch/trunk button from the backside. Four 8mm screws/nuts on the corners. TAIL LIGHT NOT WORKING. It can be faulty tail light bulb or its issue with tail light control switch or its wiring's are short. Check the voltage at fuse slot of tail light.Do you receive 12 volt there.If not,then it says tail light switch is not receiving power supply.-----
