Others say that it's not legal because the app itself is copyrighted by youtube and therefore can't be modified in anyway. My guess is there is an argument for both sides. But YouTube vanced has been operating for several years now and it doesn't seem to have faced any issues so far so I'm sure it is legal or youtube doesn't care enough about
